Giaredo Georges is a thrilling place to visit in Italy. It is located in the province of Pisa, in the municipality of San Giuliano Terme. The geological phenomenon of the Giaredo is a natural canyon, a deep gorge carved by the sea on the cliff. Lots of people come to this place to swim in the natural pool, hike and enjoy nature.

Treasure of the Cilento National Park

The Giaredo George natural canyon is a gem of the Cilento National Park. About 15 km from Marina di Camerota, this magical place is located within a Special Nature Reserve. It is an area rich in flora and fauna and its geological formations. The walls are made up of sedimentary rocks and limestone. The deep and narrow gorge was created during an erosion process that occurred over millions of years due to strong karstic phenomena. There is no impressive flow of water, but some small waterfalls flow in correspondence with more impermeable layers of the rock. In this geomorphological landscape, it is possible to observe two fissures that intersect and create a real canyon, a rarity in Italy.

A great number of tombs and other artifacts 

In addition to flora and fauna, there are also numerous archaeological finds such as a Roman bridge and several rural churches. The archaeological area is characterized by a vast necropolis dating from the end of the Copper Age to the beginning of the Bronze Age, and its real importance is due to its extraordinary state of preservation. The site was discovered in 1969 by workers who were carrying out excavation for building material. In 1972, during an inspection visit, these same workers led Professor Vincenzo De Nino to this site with several tombs that had been preserved until then unknown to researchers. Professor De Nino began systematic excavations that have lasted almost thirty years, revealing over one hundred tombs and identifying a settlement area where hundreds of artifacts were found.
