Luca Guadagnino

Italian film director

Luca Guadagnino is an Italian film director born in Palermo, Sicily. He is known for his efforts to revive the sensual filmmaking style that was alive in the New Wave era of Italian cinema through the achievement of international critical acclaim.

The Masterpieces

Luca Guadagnino is a graduate of the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome. In 1995 he founded the company First Sun, dedicated to film production and promotion of young directors. His films have received international acclaim at the most important festivals: The Protagonists, The Pillow Book, I Am Love, A Bigger Splash, Call Me By Your Name and Suspiria.

Luca and Italy

Italian director Luca Guadagnino tells in his book his childhood memories and the love for his home country, Italy. It’s about making olive oil and growing flowers and citrus trees and garnering saffron and making wine, about the pantry of ingredients essential to the kitchen, from white beans from Cannara to dried porcini mushrooms from Siena, the scents that define a place for him and provide an instant map of deeply evocative memories.

Guadagnino's other talents

Luca Guadagnino, a polymathic artist is a graphic designer, painter, and set designer (he designed the set for “A Bigger Splash”), but his greatest talent may be his insatiable curiosity about everything and everyone around him, which led him to filmmaking. Beyond film, Guadagnino is a tastemaker who directs for opera and ballet, helps create design and furniture objects, and mentors young creatives. Luca, who would have all the actors and crew over to his house for a big cookout after a shoot, is also an accomplished chef.
